Trained as a computer and communications engineer at the University of Malta, with a research period at Oakland University, Michigan, focused on embedded systems and automated driving. This gave Roderick a systems-level understanding of building reliable, real-time software — a foundation that has shaped his approach to financial systems and data engineering ever since.
Banking & Quantitative Risk
Moved into banking, leading quantitative development at a European bank. Specialised in Risk, Asset Liability Management (ALM), and balance sheet optimisation. Built financial models for stress testing, ICAAP/ILAAP submissions, and regulatory reporting across credit, market, and liquidity risk.
Developed a deep understanding of how banks manage risk at the balance sheet level — from interest rate risk and funding strategy to capital adequacy and regulatory capital planning. Was also involved in several M&A deals and capital raising initiatives, contributing financial modelling, risk assessment, and quantitative due diligence. This work sat at the intersection of quantitative finance, regulatory compliance, and technology.
Automated Trading & Risk Engineering
Engineered risk systems for an automated trading operation, building real-time risk monitoring, position management, and quantitative analytics infrastructure. This required combining financial engineering with low-latency software development — building systems where accuracy and speed directly impact P&L and risk exposure.
Data Science Leadership
Led data science teams in one of Europe's largest highly regulated, real-time technology environments. Applied machine learning at scale for automated decision systems, predictive analytics, and operational intelligence. Built and managed teams of data scientists, data engineers, and ML engineers delivering production systems processing millions of events.
Enterprise Consulting & Digital Transformation
Served as business consultant and team lead at a global technology company, delivering national-scale digital transformation projects. This involved modernising legacy systems, building data platforms, designing enterprise architectures, and leading large cross-functional delivery teams. The work spanned government, financial services, and large enterprises.

Co-founded and scaled multiple AI-native, data-driven organisations — several now market leaders in their sectors across AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, digital services, and property management. Built large multidisciplinary teams across each venture, from engineering and data science to operations and commercial functions.
